Grassy weeds 

I.a)Manual, b) Mulching by rice or wheat straw @ 7.5 to 10 t/ha, c) Smothering by red amaranth (10-30 kg seed/ha), mung (1:1, cv. Pant mung 5, Pant mung 4, Samratetc), d) Mixed cropping with short duration vegetable (summer radish, red amaranth, carrot etc)

Mulching by Red Amarnth 
Inter/mixed cropping red amaranthus (Amaranthus tricolor L., cv. Jabakusum) in jute & two hand weeding.
Red amaranth suppressed the weed growth by more than 50 percent and above and mixed cropping produced (additional mount) 40 to 64 q red amaranth, 8 q summer radish and 11 q data sak/ha at 21 to 40 DAE along with 35 to 37 q fibre/ha. It requires two weedings. It is also possible under rainfed condition when jute sown after assured rain under late sowing situation.
This will create early solvency, minimize loss of input through weeds and more remunerative than manual weeding twice. Ghorai et al, 2003. This system fetched a gross return of Rs. 1.63 to1.68 from each one rupee invested as total variable cost. The net return varied around Rs. 19000 to 21000.00/ha. The Cost of cultivation went upto Rs. 31000/ha. For manual weeding twice the same was Rs. 25000.00/ha. The gross return/TVC ratio was 1.60 for manual weeding twice.
